El Rompido is located on the Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) in the southern portion of Spain that borders the Atlantic Ocean. It is ideally situated in that it is sheltered from the direct impact of the ocean by the sand-dune island called La Flecha -- The Arrow. The area is not burdened by the overdevelopment that has become endemic in beach resort areas. |
"Echoes of Spain" |
| The town retains a provincial atmosphere and the charm of a
small fishing village. The year-round residents are friendly and
accommodating to visitors of all nationalities. One can easily enjoy an
entire vacation in El Rompido without venturing more than few kilometers
in any direction. However, there are so many wonderful sites
nearby that we want to share some of them with you. |

Gardens of La Rabida With the obelisk monument to Columbus at their center, the spacious and well-groomed gardens display a range of flora thanks to the mild climate of the region. To the far right, a detail of the restored courtyard walls within the monastery itself. |

at Niebla - One of the
many remaining Medieval fortresses found throughout Spain. The
walls surround the original city of Niebla and the fort is open for
tours -- including the dungeon! Most of the enclave is still inhabited
with minimal modernization. As is the case with much of Spain, you will
find yourself peering into gorgeously landscaped private patios (3rd
